Transcription: This bronze statue of Zebulon Baird Vance was a gift from the state of North Carolina. Vance served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1858 to 1861 and then enlisted in the Confederate Army, where he rose to the rank of colonel. Vance was twice elected governor of North Carolina and served in the United States Senate from 1879 to 1894.
